Blue Flag For Boat Owners

The individual Blue Flag is awarded to interested boat owners/users signing an environmental code of conduct declaring that he/she will adhere to and act responsibly regarding the issues outlined in the environmental code of conduct.

The small individual Blue Flag for boat owners can be obtained both through the marinas, the National Organisations and the Blue Flag Coordination Committee.

Upon accepting the code of environmental conduct, the boater will then be registered in a Blue Flag Environmental Club with names, country represented and email address. These individuals will receive information about the Blue Flag Programme and press releases about the Bahamas Blue Flag Programme.

The following issues are included in the environmental code of conduct:

• I will not throw garbage into the sea or along the coast
• I will not release sewerage in the sea, in coastal waters or within sensitive areas
• I will not release poisonous or toxic waste (oil, paint, used batteries, cleaning agents, etc.) into the marine    environment. I will deliver these types of waste to the appropriate containers within the marina.
• I will promote and use recycling facilities (glass, paper, cardboards, etc.)
• I will use the most environmentally friendly products among paints, paint remover, detergents, etc, that is available   and work efficiently.
• I will instantly report pollution or other violation of environmental regulations to the relevant authorities.
• I will not use prohibited fishing practice and I will respect periods when fishing is unlawful in the respective country.
• I will protect animals and plants in the marine environment, including the avoidance of disturbance to breeding birds   and their nest and the avoidance a taking coral where prohibited.
• I will respect vulnerable and natural protected areas.
• I will avoid damage of the sea bottom especially in sensitive marine areas.
• I will not buy or use objects made from protected species or from archaeological underwater findings
• I will encourage other sailors also to take care of the marine environments and its surrounding area.
• I will be respectful and considerate to other boaters.
