The Grand Bahama Sports Complex opened in 1999 and is the center for Track and Field competitions on Grand Bahama Island. It is home to Donald Thomas - 2007 World Champion for High Jump; Michael Mathieu and Andrea Williams - 2007 World Championship Silver Medalists and Silver Medalists for the 4x400m Relay at the 2008 Olympic Games. Other facilities include the Freeport Rugby Football Club, founded in 1965, and home to the 2008 Rugby Bahamas Cup champions and the GBFL Men’s Soccer champions; the Lucaya Cricket Club, comprised of world-class athletes and the only place to play or watch cricket on Grand Bahama Island; plus two modern basketball facilities – the St. George’s High School Gymnasium and the Sir Jack Hayward High School Gymnasium, which is NCAA certified for Women’s Tournaments.
